Our Sri Lankan Christmas

Picture a strip of sand, crabs scrawling in the cavities of a few rocks dotted here and there, a little path lined with banana and coconut trees that opens up onto a terrace with two inviting hammocks and a table at which we sit during the hottest hours of the day. The mornings we spend in the rock pool, bobbing in the tame waves and eyeing the sand for the best shells, or on Weligama beach, frolicking amongst the surfers and bodyboarders. Just before sunset we skip back down to our little pool to defy the raging waves and keep a lookout for the hermit crabs that skedaddle under our feet. Our tropical Christmas included an outing to Galle, a city of colonial landmarks best know for its fort and lighthouse, now awash with trendy cafes and artsy shops, where Hadeeqa mastered the courage the wrap a python around her neck.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, we certainly savoured our escape to this little paradise and came back to Nuwara Eliya last night, brown and happy!
